Hi!

My name is Crystal
I am a Visual Communications Major.

My love for design grew from being an obsessive compulsive person who loves to doodle. Let's go back 7 yrs where I really started to get into design. Someone had seen a few of my vector illustrations online and offered me a freelance job to design banners for their website. From there I started doing a few jobs here and there doing more banners, icons, etc etc, but never had the formal training I really needed.

So here I am, back again in school still freelancing part time at a publishing company designing books, catalogues, DVD covers and editing audio.

Some non-design/art info: I am originally a military brat who eventually landed in Sacramento. I came out to SF after my boyfriend of 5 years decided to go to SFSU, after a few years I followed and decided to apply to SFSU as well. I currently commute from Marin daily to SF because he currently has the real job working for LucasFilm. I am hoping to finally graduate this semester and cut down my commute time to nothing and continue growing and working with the publishing company I freelance with.

My inspiration spurs from film and books. I love the visual aesthetics that a shot can bring to the screen and the pictures that books build in your mind. I also find inspiration in color, how various colors can emote different meanings and feelings. I am heavily influenced by Alphonse Mucha as well as modernism. They are yes, in a way on the opposite ends of the scale, but I guess it depends on what I am designing or illustrating. In the future I hope to be totally independent, a working freelancer who can pick and choose who they work for. That of course is going to take a number of years, but I'm looking forward to the fight.

6/Six key words that describe me:
Homely. Happy. Tech Savvy. Inquisitive. Obsessive-Compulsive. Lucky.
